1. DUDUKE - Simi

Bringing the news of her pregnancy to the media, Simi released audio and visuals of Duduke in April. She expresses her love and enthusiasm to welcome her unborn child- “First let me say to you, I cannot wait to see you”.

The beautiful percussion mix coupled with Simi’s vocals was engineered by super talented producer Oscar while Adasa Cookey shot the video.

The song went on to trend on social media after Simi introduced the #dudukechallenge. Duduke is currently topping Nigeria’s music charts and is our favorite at the moment.

2. BAD INFLUENCE - Omah Lay

Gifted with a unique tenor vocal and an impressive songwriting skill, this new kid on the block recently made a statement in the Nigerian music industry with his newly released 5-track EP, Get Layd. Released in May, Bad Influence is the 4th track off the EP, and on the mid-tempo song.

Omah Lay talks about the emotional and psychological influence his lover has had on him. Interestingly, the track was produced by himself.

Released in April, Simi and Ladipoe come together on this track and sing about their desires for intimacy. It is also bodied around the topic of sensuality and seduction. The song was produced by veteran music producer, engineer, and DJ, Somi Jones.

4. SOMETHING DIFFERENT - Adekunle Gold

Having started the year with his hit single, “Jore” featuring Kizz Daniel, this Nigerian afrobeat pop star has teamed up with music producer, blaisebeatz on this somewhat different wave of afrobeat.

We enjoy yet again, his prolific songwriting skills, and can evidently tell that Adekunle Gold is an artist who can bring out the best results whenever he decides to try something different. The song was released on May 1st but is yet to have a video.

5. NOBODY - Dj Neptune ft. Joeboy & Mr Eazi

Accompanied by beautiful visuals from ‘boy director’, TG Omori, this song features Empawa artiste, Joeboy, and boss, Mr Eazi who displays a consistent flow of rhythm while expressing their possessive kind of love and jealousy.

For the visuals, they further went on to display some dance moves which we think were quite beautiful. Nobody was produced by Neptune Record’s in-house producer, MagicSticks.

6. YOU - Omah Lay

On track number 3 from the Port Harcourt star’s new EP, Omah Lay delivers a hook on this instant hit, which shows how well he knows his music.

Having singly dropped this record before the release of the EP, Omah Lay set the pace for his listeners to anticipate the new project. It is easily the most enjoyable song on the new music project, being produced by music producer, El-Jack.

On YOU, the afro-pop artiste’s debut single, he sings about how much he loves his woman and the things he’s willing to do to prove it. He dropped this single on Feb 14.

7. LOVE NWANTITI (RMX) - Ckay ft. Joeboy & Kuami Eugene

Following the release of the original song in 2019, chocolate city record producer and songwriter, Ckay picks Valentine’s day to release a remix to the love song which features Joeboy and Kuami Eugene.

Released in May, the visual to the song was shot by Kewa Oni & Seun Opabisi and we see Terri fall repeatedly for his girlfriend’s shadiness.

9. DAMN - Omah Lay

Another beautiful track off Get Layd by Omah Lay is this tune of harmonious xylophone and breezy synths, coupled with the singer’s smoothly delivered vocals, produced by Bizzouch.

Omah Lay is quite sincere and romantic with his beautiful lyrics as he describes how he is loved by his girl, despite his vices and being an outlaw.

We particularly love this song because the Afro-pop artist has managed to make his listeners get in their feelings, even while vibing hard to the song.

10. MJ - Bad Boy Timz

Named after pop legend, Michael Jackson, Bad Boy Timz released this groovy dance tune in March.

The track was produced by SemziBeats and is a sequel to his 2019 project, TIMZ EP which featured artistes like Zlatan & Barry Jhay. He has yet to give us visuals to this amazing record.

11. BOP DADDY - Falz ft. Ms Banks

We particularly love this song because Falz puts his talents on display, yet again. The song, produced by Nigerian record producer and songwriter, Chillz, has Falz sing about being a legitimately wealthy man who lives an extravagant lifestyle, is surrounded by a lot of women, and is willing to spend lavishly on them.

Ms Banks also features excellently, delivering her amazing rap skills on the track. The video for this beautiful symphony by the duo was shot by Vissionaire Pictures.

The song gained even more popularity and trended on social media when Falz put up the #bopdaddychallenge for his fans to participate in.

12. OF LAGOS - Mayorkun

Sequel to his smash hit, ‘Geng’, which was undoubtedly the first hit of 2020, the Mayor of Lagos dropped his second single in April.

While he repeatedly chants ‘of Lagos’, the song is quite short but groovy. Produced by DMW in-house producer, Fresh VDM, this song has made it to our top 20 list because of its replay value over time, even though a few might argue that it lacks content.

13. AWAY - Oxlade

Away’ is Oxlades’s lead single off his debut album, OXYGENE, released in March. It is a beautiful song as it begins with finely tuned afro-pop drums that immediately make you want to move your body, coupled with guitar strings which pave the way for Oxlade’s smooth vocals.

Away was produced by Spax and its video shot by the talented TG Omori. On this track, we hear Oxlade sing about his undying love for an older woman and how he plans to fly away with her.

14. CALL - Joeboy

Known to write beautifully captivating love songs, Joeboy comes through with another single, Call. Produced by Dera, the tune is characterized by fine percussion with the singer’s smooth vocals.

In this song, Joeboy seeks to gain his lover’s trust, assuring her he would always come running whenever she calls on him. Visual for this love song was shot by TG Omori.

15. AGAIN - Wande Coal

Again’ by Wande Coal is a masterpiece of music producer, Melvitto’s music production and Wande Coal’s scintillating vocals.

The afro-pop star released this mid-tempo single in February, evidently making a statement that his musical prowess and vocal aptitude were still very much present, even after well over a decade in the music industry.

The talented music video director, Adasa Cookey shot the video for the song

16. OPO - 2face ft. Wizkid

Opo’ which means ‘it is plenty’ is arguably the most listened to song off the HyperDigital boss and music legend, 2face’s most recent album, WARRIOR, released in February.

Produced by ever relentless BlaqJerzee and blessed with proper dancehall vibes from 2baba and Starboy.

This song easily stands out from all others seen on the Warrior project. While we await the visuals to the song, we shall continue to vibe to this jam.

17. ODOGWU - Burna Boy

Produced by Nigerian Grammy-nominee producer, Kel P, this song is a fine blend of afro-pop, hip-hop, and high life. ‘Odogwu’ is an Igbo word which means ‘Champion’.

In this song, Burna Boy tries to declare that when afrobeat is concerned, he is the ‘Odogwu’ of the music. TG Omori shot the video.

18. BEAMER - Rema

Yet to make a mistake with any of his songs, Mavin and Jonzing world’s young artiste, Rema collaborates with Jamaican record producer, Rvssian on this dancehall and afro-pop tune.

The song has since been making waves and chart presence. The video was shot in the states by Fxrbes.

19. EVE BOUNCE (RMX) - Yung L ft. Wizkid

Produced by afro-fusion music producer, ‘the undisputed champion’ (@iam_tuc), this much-anticipated collaboration between afro-dancehall artiste, Yung L, and afrobeat superstar, Wizkid is a funky blend of afro-dancehall, afrobeat, and reggae.

Mr Marley released this remix to the original song, Eve Bounce off his recent project, Juice & Zimm in May.

The song is so beautiful as the talented duo delivered perfectly. While we expect a video, they have certainly left us a summer jam.

20. THESE DAYS - Tems

After a grand introduction into the music scene in 2019, with the hit single, ‘Try Me’, R&B/pop, Alté artiste, Tems kickstarts her 2020 in May with this debut single, after a long wait.

She outpours her emotions on this soft RnB tune produced by Rvdical The Kid. Tems has also recorded a huge feature on Khalid’s ‘Know your worth’, alongside Davido.

While we are promised more from the Rebel Gang leader, there’s also hints to a collaboration with Wizkid through his tweet, ‘Tems and I created magic’. It is definitely about to be a good 2020 for Tems.
